Question 1

Where is HabiMat Pilates based?

Accepted Answer

Hosting classes in locations in and around Hertfordshire with easy access from Knebworth, Stevenage, Hitchin, and Welwyn Garden City. Regular group classes run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at The Canyon in Stevenage. Get in touch through the Contact page and Holly can send you directions for the session you have booked.

Question 2

What is mat Pilates, and how is it different from reformer Pilates?

Accepted Answer

Based on the original practice crafted by Joseph Pilates and adapted over the years by the practitioners that followed. Mat Pilates uses your own bodyweight and is done on a floor mat rather than a reformer machine. It builds the same core strength and control, is easier to start with, and travels well into a home practice.

Question 3

Do I need Pilates experience to join a class?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely not! HabiMat Pilates has suitable regressions and progressions weaved into the practice, so beginners and regulars can work side by side in the same room. Tell Holly it's your first class and she'll support you without singling you out.

Question 4

How much are Pilates classes in Hertfordshire with HabiMat?

Accepted Answer

Currently, a HabiMat Pilates class is £7, rising to £10 from 1st December. There is no membership or sign up fee. Check out the Classes page to view the timetable and prices together.

Question 5

Does HabiMat offer 1-to-1 Pilates sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes, from 16th October, any day or time to suit you. Holly can come to you for a home visit, or host you at her home. A 45 minute session is £20 (£25 from 1st December) and a 60 minute session is £25 (£30 from 1st December). Get in touch through the Contact page to book.

Question 6

Who teaches the classes?

Accepted Answer

Holly, HabiMat's founder, is currently training toward her full Pilates instructor qualification. That's exactly why pricing is so accessible right now, the standard of teaching stays high throughout, and every sign-up before she qualifies keeps today's price until 28th February.

Question 7

What should I bring or wear to my first class?

Accepted Answer

Bring along your mat, a small towel or blanket (this is for your comfort!), and you as you are! Wear something you can move freely in, and bare feet or grip socks both work fine.

Question 8

How do I book a class?

Accepted Answer

Head to the Classes & Pricing page, find a session on the timetable, and select "Reserve your spot". You'll be taken to the payment page to lock in your place in the class.

Question 9

Is HabiMat suitable if I have an injury or health condition?

Accepted Answer

Pilates is recommended for injury prevention and rehabilitation as well as having many health benefits such as improving mental wellbeing and chronic pain relief. Many clients join with existing niggles, from bad knees or backs to tight muscles and low flexibility. Before your first session, you'll be asked to fill out a form so Holly can understand you better and plan modifications where necessary. However, it is always important to check with your GP or physio first if you're recovering from an injury or have an ongoing health condition.

Question 10

Why is there only one class on the timetable?

Accepted Answer

Because doing one thing properly beats doing six things sparsely. HabiMat Pilates is a full-body mixed-ability class built to suit everyone in the room with suitable progressions and regressions weaved into each class. As we grow, there will be more class types, breathwork and soundbaths joining the timetable soon. Keep your eyes peeled!

Question 11

Can I turn up on the day and pay in cash?

Accepted Answer

HabiMat classes are capped to ensure everyone gets equal and considered time within the class, so do check availability online or with Holly before turning up. HabiMat can take card or cash payments on the day.
